[Sympathy splintered through his chest. He'd suspected there was a reason Lily didn't want to return to her world too quickly, but that there was a war waiting for her tore at his heart and pinched his expression]
..I'm sorry. I wish there was more kindness in this one.
Sort of like royalty, in a way - or at least the important families would like you to think. Purists believe that the children of non-magical people, or of a magical person and a regular person are inferior and shouldn't be entitled to the same quality of life they have.
[ The thought was as stupid now as it had been the first time she heard it, and she looked as though the idea were revolting. ]
Both my parents are non-magical, I've got a bit of an opinion on the matter, you might say.
There already is. One particularly horrible wizard has been gathering followers for years, adults, students at the school I went to. My friend.
[ Best not to dwell on that particularly nasty wound though. ]
They've been attacking people like me and their families for the last few years now. People go missing and turn up dead. It's said they mean to overthrow the Ministry and put a new order in its place, where magical kind is superior to all else.
[It's difficult to digest; his eyes shift in near-constant motion as confusion and vague horror take hold of his expression. That someone would decide themselves so superior to others as to kill them for the crime of their birth.. it's abhorrent to everything he holds sacred.
His tongue feels sour, and he looks at Lily with a helpless sadness]
[ The troubled look on her face grew a bit darker, watching the way his trying to work it out in his mind seemed to play across his expression in vivid detail. ]
He's an evil man, and nothing he says is true or right, but powerful terrible people believe him anyway.
[ Moving along with him as he pulled her closer she draped an arm around his shoulders, humming in appreciation. ]
You've got so much I don't think you could stop yourself from sharing if you tried.
[ That he was so obviously a kind and gentle sort of soul had made itself apparent within their first conversations. It was difficult to spend time with El and not feel better for it in some way. ]
[ Nudging his shoulder lightly Lily urged Eleven to lay back so she could settle against him, half draped with one arm over his chest and the other propped on the ground so she could rest her chin on her hand. ]
It's a bit romantic, isn't it? Getting to enjoy each other's glow even though it's not something we're meant to experience. It makes me feel rather lucky.
Mmn. [He smiles up at her. Goddess, how has he gotten so lucky as to enjoy her affection like this? Eleven idly loops a few strands of loose red hair around one of his fingers]
Wouldn't have been lucky if you weren't the one to find it, but I expect it fell out of my pocket while we were.. distracted.
[ Watching the color rise on his cheeks she laughed slightly, flashing a grin at him. She had been doing marvelously well with not flustering herself by accident, but that hardly stopped her from egging him on and making things worse. ]
Probably good that you think so. It wouldn't do to have you get complacent.
I wouldn't- [His eyes slide off hers, the fingers in her hair dropping with nerves. His heart throbs in his throat and he struggles to clear it] Ah.. leave you out there..
[For a moment, he's certain that he's overstepped, anticipating at the least, an extended awkward silence. The words to an apology come to his lips, but Lily speaks before he starts and he coughs on inhale with a strangled sound.
He can only nod once, utterly red and force out one word] S-someday.
[ Lily nodded immediately, her face reddening as she considered how immediately out of her depth she would be if Eleven had decided to take her up on it right away. She could handle being cheeky and making him blush, even if she made herself blush in the process, but actually following through was a little more than she was prepared for. ]
Someday, when I'm less comfortable right where I am.
[ Still pink in the face she ventured a peek over at him. ]

It's the right thing to do, I just wish it wasn't over something as stupid as blood purity.

He understood it in a very loose sense- the way in which some noble families only ever wanted their heirs to marry other nobles, but-]
There's going to be a war over that?

I'm glad. It doesn't feel like much- or enough, sometimes.. and it isn't- not for this world or yours- but I want to impart as much of it as I can.

Stolen time, of a sort. ..Yes, it is, a bit. I'm glad for it.

Rather lucky you dropped your glove.

[ Tilting her head towards the hand that played with her hair Lily narrowed her eyes at El. ]
Speak for yourself. I was paying total attention.

Is that so? And here I thought I was in competition with your herbs.

Probably good that you think so. It wouldn't do to have you get complacent.

As though you need an incentive for my attention. Rare flowers, after all.

[ Lily dipped her chin looking at him impishly. ]
Be a bit drafty and I'm certain one of that lot up on the roof every night would notice.

Maybe someday you'll show me where in your room you'd keep your rare flowers.

[ Nope. Wrong direction to go in. ]

That's good.
[Which.. probably wasn't the best thing to say] I mean I- it.. I'm glad.
